Welcome back from the break! I hope everyone had some restful and fun days. I cannot believe we have made it all the way to the last term of the year! To add to the fun, we have a new student in our class. Alyssa was excited to see see some familiar faces from Kindergarten. The first graders were a big help with showing Alyssa how we do things all day. I forgot how much more entertaining the day is with my favorite 6- and 7-year-olds.
We will be reading about sounds we can hear and explore a little about how sounds are made this week. One of the stories we will read, Whistle for Willie, was written by Ezra Jack Keats. I'm sure the first graders will enjoy reading about Willie as he tries over and over to learn how to whistle.
Chapter 9 in Go Math is all about measurement. The first graders learned how to tell time to the hour and half hour before the break. Today we used Fruit by the Foot treats to compare two and three different lengths. The class picked up really quickly how to use the correct adjectives when comparing their treats. We will learn how to put lengths in order using clues tomorrow before moving on to using tools to measure objects.
This week is full of art events! Tomorrow we will meet with the visual arts specialist and learn some basic drawing skills. Art Night is this Thursday evening from 6-8 PM. Families are invited to come see the projects the wonderful Art Attack parents have done with the first graders over the past few months.
Have a wonderful week!
