We have two exciting events coming up next month. First grade will be traveling to Red Butte after lunch on Monday, October 3. Each group of first graders will be accompanied by a parent volunteer and a garden guide. They will be walking quite a bit, so good walking shoes are needed. The Jog-a-thon will be Friday, October 14. The class will be outside for about 20 minutes in the morning. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather on both dates. The Jog-a-thon is Upland's one fundraiser for the year. The money raised goes directly to classrooms. I have used the funds from previous years to purchase science materials, the book boxes we use currently, and additional field trips. Collection envelopes were sent home today. These can be sent back to school at any time on or before October 14. Thank you for all your help and support of Upland Terrace!
I am amazed at how much the first graders have learned in the past month! We finished our chapter on subtraction today, so we will be taking a chapter test tomorrow. They have also been working on building their stamina for independent work. They are up to about 9 minutes. When we started the year, most of the class was able to sit and work for about 2 minutes before getting up to move or chat with a neighbor. That means we will be working in small groups very soon! If you are available to help with students one on one in the afternoons, please send me an email with the day of the week and time that you can consistently come in.
Have a wonderful week!
