The class had a great time learning about the sun and moon, so we will complete our learning about the sky with a unit on weather. This week we will start with clouds. We will read some very informational and fun texts, as well as write about what we learn. The first read aloud is I Call it Sky. First graders like to share their observations about the sky while we read every year, so I am excited to hear what this class shares tomorrow.
Next week we will be celebrating the 100th day of school. We are very excited to celebrate our big day! Especially with the current math chapter it has been exciting to build and discuss numbers up to 100. We started our collection of 100 food items today with one can of soup. The first grade teachers made the goal to illustrate how much one group of people can help others. If you are able to donate anything to help our cause, I would greatly appreciate it.
I have just a few reminders for the week. First, thank you for helping your child keep track of their reading minutes. Totals for the week have not been announced, but we have collected another 100 minutes so far. If you need your child's username and password, just let me know. The competition is fierce, so any help is appreciated in keeping our team ahead! Last week I sent home a letter requesting an emergency kit for each child. I have only received 2 so far. Each class needs kits for every student so that we are prepared for an extended evacuation. I appreciate the time you put into assembling the bags and for all you do to support your child. We would not be as successful as a class if it weren't for all that each family does.
Have a wonderful week!
