Today is day 90, which means there are only 10 more days until the 100th day of school! I cannot believe that we are so far through the year. I sent home a note explaining all about the big day coming up with the homework packet this week. We pack a whole bunch of celebration into one day, so thank you in advance for all your help and donations.
We started the first chapter on place value today with counting by ones from random numbers between one and 120. The first graders helped me fill in blanks on a 120 chart. Then they made some great observations about how numbers have the digits 0-9 in each row and some digits repeat going down columns. We will be doing a lot more counting and using a 120 chart this week before we use ten frames to explore tens and ones in teen numbers.
This week we will start observing the moon during the day while we read about weather. I'm excited to read about storms, clouds, and the seasons with the class. We have been practicing using adjectives this month. Writing about the weather will definitely be more exciting with describing words.
This month we are participating in a reading minute competition with other classes. So far, the class has read 648 minutes but we need to continue to read and record as many minutes as we can. Each student has a sticker in the front of their planner with their username and password for the Road to Success website. Please help your child record their reading minutes on the website. If you need help, or have any questions please let me know!
Thanks for all your support! Have a wonderful week!
