This week will be a busy one! Today we started our day with a new way to subtract. The first graders did a great job using our "Match 'em up!" chant. We did a practice page that has examples on the back. I'm sure your child would love to be a teacher and show you how to "match them up". We also met our fifth grade buddies in Mrs. Allred's class. The fifth graders were celebrating "Talk Like a Pirate Day" so we played pirate-themed games for the last bit of the day.
We are reading about pets and friends during this unit. Last week we started talking about what makes pets special. The first graders wrote some very entertaining stories about a make-believe pet coming to school. This week we will add friends to our discussions. The class has been working on ways to be good friends, including how to ask someone to play. The first graders know how to greet each other and introduce themselves, so this will be our next skill to practice during Morning Meeting.
September 30 is just around the corner. PTA is still collecting memberships and tracking them with the Spot the Dot contest. So far, we have 13 dots outside our door. The Upland PTA is more than wonderful with all that they do, but none of that would be possible without memberships. Thank you for all your support of our school!
Conferences are this Wednesday and Thursday. Thank you to everyone that reserved a conference time. I'm looking forward to seeing families again this week! The Book Fair will also be open during those two days. You are welcome to come by and add to your library at home. Due to conferences, there will be no school on Friday. Thursday will be an early dismissal day.
Have a wonderful week!
