This week we are busy, busy, busy! I am blending science and reading this month so that the first graders can read and learn about how living things change and grow over time. Last week each child started a seed. The first graders chose between a sunflower and pea seed. We will observe how they grow over the next month. We will also be reading about humans and animals this month. Your child will need some help with a bit of homework this week. Tomorrow first graders will bring home a page about their family. I greatly appreciate you helping them fill out basic information on family members and returning the page by this Friday. I PROMISE the request for information will be minimal since we don't normal have homework and this week is very busy for Seussical cast members!
This quarter the first graders will learn how to write informational pieces. First, they will learn the parts to informational writing, like introductions and facts. Then we will add details and a wrap up sentence.
The first graders are learning all about graphs in math this week. We have made picture and bar graphs so far. The next adventure will be tally marks and how to record data with them. We will be using data from the homework sheet to make a tally graph on Friday. Thank you again in advance for your help sending the data we need to school by then!
Have a wonderful week!
