What a busy week we have ahead of us! Tomorrow we will be drawing with the art specialist right before lunch. Thursday is Art Night from 6-8 PM. Please come walk through the halls to see what great artists we have at Upland Terrace. Next Wednesday, April 20, is the family picnic for grades 1, 3, and 5. First grade lunches from 11:30-12:05. Families are welcome to bring a blanket and a lunch to eat in the lunchroom. Hot lunches can be ordered; forms are due to the office by tomorrow. Please make checks payable to Upland Terrace.
We are measuring, measuring, measuring in room 212! Today we used cubes to measure pictures of different animals. Some animals were either a bit longer or a bit shorter than the cubes, so we talked about how we can say a measurement is "about" so many units to communicate that slight difference. Tomorrow we will be using strips of paperclips to measure larger objects in the room like the rug, the easel, and the Smart Board.
In reading, we have started to read and discuss families and how a human life cycle can be seen in one. Today we read You'll Soon Grow into Them, Titch. The story is about a little boy who does not have clothes that fit him, so his siblings offer their old clothes. We talked about the surprise at the end of the story and how families change over time. The rest of the week, we will read other books about families and draw diagrams that track how people grow and change.
Have a wonderful week!
