April would not be the same without all the rain we are seeing, but that means the mud continues! Your child is welcome to bring an extra pair of shoes and socks to school to keep them dry and clean between recesses. Spring also means runny noses from allergies. We have had so much sneezing that we are completely out of tissues. The first graders have been using toilet paper for the past few days, but I'm sure their noses would appreciate something softer. I would greatly appreciate any tissue donations to help us get through the last few weeks of school.
This week we started using shapes to make other shapes. The class had a great time using pattern blocks to make different shapes yesterday. We will also explore equal and unequal parts in shapes. This chapter has been fun to do with the first graders. They are becoming shape masters!
We are reading about weather this week in Wonders. So far we know about snowy and rainy weather. The first graders will write about what type of weather they like the least this week too. They have not been too happy with the rain today and yesterday keeping them inside all day, but we still have to read and talk about windy weather and hot weather. I think by the end of the week they will have a tough decision to make!
The first graders have helped put together a portfolios of their best work from the year. I am looking volunteers to hole punch their pages for each portfolio. I can send a bag home with your child with a few binders at a time. Please let me know if that is a project you would be interested in helping out with.
Have a wonderful week!
