Here we are at the end of April! This week we are reading all about plant life cycles. Today we practiced the actions we made for each stage of a plant's life: seed, germinate, sprout, plant. It was so much fun to hear the class explain what happens in each stage based on the actions we created! This week we are also writing and discussing our opinions about issues we encounter throughout our day. Today we wrote what we thought, felt, or liked about how the main character in the read aloud helped her friend. This week we will also write about what we think the most important stage in the plant life cycle is.
Today we started a new chapter on shapes. The first graders sorted shapes based on color, size, types of lines, and whether they were open or closed. This week we will also talk about vertices and sides, then use shapes to make new shapes.
The first graders noticed we are low on snack items. We all appreciate the the generosity of students and their families! Thank you in advance for snack items like fruit snacks, veggie straws, crackers, cereal, etc. We are also in need of three more volunteers to walk with students and a Red Butte group leader through the gardens on May 5 from 9:30-12:00. Please let me know if you are interested soon! This Thursday the first graders will open their student stores. I talked to them today about going through their things to find something that may be fun for someone else to play with. Items can be brought in any day through this Thursday.
Have a wonderful week!
