I just sat down to look at my calendar and, whew!, for being a short month, we sure will be busy! The Skyline Troubadours will visit Upland on Thursday at 10:30 and sing a few carols for the students. We also will meet with our buddies again for some holiday fun, as well as practice for the Sing Around on December 21. The holiday movie for first and second grades will start at 9:30. It is a shorter movie, so it should be done around 10:30. I am still looking for someone that can sit with this class during this time. I know that this time of year is insanely busy, so I greatly appreciate anyone that can volunteer their morning on December 20. Aunts, uncles, and grandparents are also welcome to volunteer. Thank you in advance for sharing a morning with us!
The craziness of December doesn't stop with the many fun things we have planned. The snow we had this morning will keep the first graders busy changing in and out of warm layers three times a day. I have noticed that a few first graders have the same coats and gloves. I would greatly appreciate it if winter layers came to school with your child's name in them. Small items especially tend to get lost or left behind but a child's name can help solve lost-and-found mysteries quickly. Snow and mud can also put a damper on learning. Your child is welcome to bring a change of socks and shoes or slippers to wear while inside.
We will continue with learning about maps and symbols this week. The first graders will put their learning to work on a map of their own design Thursday and Friday. I am excited to see what they include!
Have a wonderful week!
