This week we will be studying folktales and focusing on how to retell a story using our own words. Today we read Interrupting Chicken and examined how stories were changed when the little red chicken interrupted her father with her own versions of stories. We will also read The Nice Mitten, The Gingerbread Man, and Mother Goose rhymes over the week. The first graders will help write narrative stories about a few of the characters we meet in the stories this week. This will be a great week for them to think of some creative ideas for the Gingerbread Man!
We started Chapter 5 in math last week. Today we talked about how addition and subtraction sentences can have the same numbers in them, which makes them related. The class will practice with related numbers using numbers from their families. The first graders will also learn how to identify related sentences from a group of addition and subtraction sentences. All this work will help them master addition and subtraction facts.
Have a wonderful week!
