December feels like it is flying by! This week we will practice two holiday songs in music. The whole school gathers together to sing songs and celebrate the season. This year the Sing-a-round will be at 9:30. Because all classes face each other, there is very limited space. We will also be doing an activity with our buddies this Thursday. It has been fun watching my first graders this year get to know fifth graders I had 4 years ago!
This week we are wrapping up the chapter on addition strategies. The first graders are addition super stars with all the strategies we've learned. I like to listen in on their conversations about adding numbers together. There are strategies that they really like and work well for them to add efficiently. Math facts are going to be a breeze with all the work we've put in.
This week in reading we are talking about time and how things change over time. Today we read a poem about a girl that notices how tree get taller, eggs hatch, puppies grow, and how even she has clothes that no longer fit. The first graders came up with some great memories from the past 4 months. I hope that they also feel like they are growing and becoming smarter. I don't want them to rush into growing up, but I am so proud of all the gains they've made this year so far.
Have a wonderful week!
