Upland Terrace is collecting new or gently used clothing and household items today through December 22. The first graders were very enthusiastic about bringing in donations when we talked about it as a class on Friday. It was very heart-warming to hear them describe how many things they were sure they could bring in. The donations will also generate a monetary sum for the Granite Education Foundation to use to support families in our district that are in need of assistance. Each pound of donations equals .25 for the foundation!
This week we will be reading about life long ago. The first graders will learn to compare and contrast a variety of activities like doing dishes or going to school. A few of the first graders had me quietly chuckling when they were astonished at how some things were done even just 30 years ago. After watching the range of reactions this morning, I'm looking forward to reading their thoughts on how toys or chores have changed this week!
This week we are exploring the relationshiop between addition and subtraction. Today we talked about how knowing an entire subtraction sentence can help us write a related addition sentence. The class is getting better at finding and explaining which sentences are related. I cannot believe how much they have learned so far this year when I hear them talk or work!
Have a wonderful week!
