Hip Hip Hooray! It’s (almost) the 100th day! We have been busy counting, predicting, and planning for the 100th day of school. 100 is a big number for first grade and a fantastic reason to celebrate. Tomorrow we will start the celebration with a parade around the school. Library will have to wait for later this week since we will be showing off our new look at our normal library time. We will still have PE tomorrow, so I encourage students to bring shoes, even other clothes they can be active in. This year the first grade teachers are challenging each class to collect 100 boxes or cans of food to donate. So far we have collected 14 cans. Food donations will be delivered on Friday, so we can keep counting until then. I truly appreciate any donations to the cause. The first graders will show off their collection of 100 things they have counted tomorrow afternoon. Your child’s collection could be pennies, paperclips, stamps, crayons, etc.
We will continue working with place value this week. So far, we have learned how to make a model of numbers up to 100. By Friday, we should be making models up to 120! The class is having a blast practicing counting. I can't wait to pull out my collections of buttons, bugs, cubes, etc. for them to practice with!
This week we will read about and discuss precipitation, especially rain and snow. We will make rain clouds with cotton balls and do an experiment to see what makes precipitation fall.
Road to Success minutes will be counted at 8 PM tonight for the past week. The Blue Dragon team is in last place with minutes currently, so we need everyone's help! Logins can be found in the front of your child's planner. Emergency kits are due to the school by Friday. The yellow paper sent home gives a list of items needed in kits. Please include that with your child's bag so that we have an emergency contact available for each student if we have to leave the campus. THANK YOU for all your support!
Have a wonderful week!
