I can't believe we are at the end of February! It was great to see families last week during conferences. This class is full of hard workers, so it was great to share everyone's progress. Thank you for making some time in your busy schedules!
Upland Terrace is celebrating Japanese culture for International Week this year. The first graders made kites to start the celebration. On Monday the school will attend an assembly to explain the many activities the wonderful PTA has put together. Thursday night is family night from 6:00-8:00 PM. Come join the fun with dinner and activities. This week will also be the last week for our Dragon Reading Contest. Thank you for all your help entering reading minutes! The competition has been fierce, so every minute helps the team!
This week we will wrap up our weather unit. It has been fun reading about different types of weather. Our last project will be using what we know about weather to write a story about weather. The first graders have been working on retelling stories after we have read them, so they will apply what they know about story sequence to their writing.
Place value has been keeping us busy this month. This past week we made models of numbers and compared them. The class is practicing using math words like "greater than", "less than", and "equal to" to compare two numbers. Today they learned how to write the symbols for each of those terms. This is a tricky skill so we will continue to practice next week.
Thank you for all your support. We couldn't be as successful without it!
Have a wonderful week!
