This week is packed with fun even though we are one day short. This week we continued our study of folktales. Today we read Coyote, a folktale from the Southwest. We will also read tales from around the world. Because it is a new term , the first graders learned a new form of writing. The class helped me write a review of Coyote to start off our month on opinion writing. We will keep working on writing what they think about the books we read so they can share them with each other. The first graders learned how to count by ten today in math. It was the first lesson in the place value chapter. Next we will learn how to make groups of ten from a big group to understand tens and ones in a number.
Now that we are halfway through the year, there are a few more volunteer opportunities coming up. First, the 100th day is January 30. There are two spots left for our party in the afternoon. click on the link below for more details.

Ms. Petty, our fantastic art specialist, will be working on a ceramics project with each class. You can find more details about volunteering for one day here:
Finally, the first graders have set aside work for their portfolios. I need help punching holes, then loading their pages into binders. This project doesn't have to be done here at school. I can send you with everything you need to work at your own pace. The link below has more information.
Thanks in advance!
Have a wonderful week!
