March is here and coming in like a lion! I can't believe how much snow there is outside! The first graders had a ton of fun sliding down the hill and building things out of snow at least one more time. Thank you for sending your child with extra socks and pants, as well as coats, hats, gloves, snow pants, etc. We have quite the collection of socks in the classroom, so if you feel like your supply is running short it may not be the washer and dryer this time.
We are still working on opinion writing, but this month the first graders are learning how to find evidence to support their thinking. Today we wrote about Leonardo, the terrible monster. This week the first graders are learning about inventions, so we will also write opinions about them.
We are getting close to the end of chapter 8 in math. The first graders have learned 4 different strategies to add two-digit numbers. They can use a 100 chart, add the tens and ones, draw a picture, and make a ten with ones. I am so impressed with how far we've come since the beginning of the year in math.
This month we've got the following fun activities to look forward to:
Have a wonderful week!
