Welcome back! I hope the break was restful and fun for everyone. The first graders were full of stories today! It was fun to hear all they had to share. We are in need of snack donations again. I very much appreciate your generosity this year and send a giant THANK YOU in advance for helping me keep the first graders going during the long afternoon.
Since this week is short, we will be wrapping up the two units we started this month. First, the first graders learned about the hour and minute hand before the break. Today we put both concepts together and practiced telling time to the hour and half hour. The class will continue to practice and take a short test on the concept this Friday. We will start measuring length next week, but keep practicing telling time through the end of the year. The second unit we will be wrapping up is about mapping. Today the first graders re-read and edited the story they wrote about losing something important to them. We will create maps that match their stories tomorrow and Friday. I will be looking for how the first graders use symbols and the cardinal directions in their maps, and if their maps match their stories. I'm excited to see what they create!
Have a wonderful week!
