I hope everyone had a great weekend. We came back and got right to work on some math art and a geometry test. The first graders did an excellent job cutting their shape into halves, then fourths. They also traded their parts so that they eventually had 4 different ones. The finished products look wonderful! Tomorrow we will start the last chapter on 3-D shapes. We will make observations about what kind of faces the shapes have, as well as how to put different shapes together to make a new shape.
This Friday is the Fun Run. So far, the forecast calls for warm, sunny weather. We will be running first thing in the morning, so please remind your child to wear appropriate shoes and clothes for the run. Sun screen may also be a good idea for the morning. Another fun event coming up is field day, Thursday, May 26. I am looking for a parent volunteer to take my class through the stations in the morning, then another parent to sit with my class during the afternoon movie. I love to join my class for this fun day, but the summer cleaning schedule has put a bit of a time crunch on the last week of school as well as the week after. If you are available from 9-11:30 or 1:00-3:00 please let me know. I GREATLY appreciate any help with this day. Speaking of volunteers, a big THANK YOU to Mrs. McQueen for joining us at Red Butte last week!
The First Grade Family Picnic is the last week of school on May 25 from 11:30-12:15. Bring your family and picnic and join us for lunch outside our first grade doors on the grass and playground area. I will be sending home your child's Art Attack folder (special art for the year) and their portfolio. This helps ensure both make it home in good condition.
Have a wonderful week!
