This week we will be busy learning about the community and the jobs people have. Tomorrow we will be visited by Mr. Wilkinson in the afternoon. He will talk to us about his job as a police officer. At the end of the day, Mrs. Kelly will teach an Art Attack lesson. On Wednesday we will travel to Fresh Market, Brown's Floral, and Caputo's Deli. I am still looking for a few parent volunteers that would be interested in joining us. The bus will be very full with three classes, so parent volunteers are asked to drive separately to each location. If you are interested in joining us, please email me. Thursday we will wrap up the community job visits with the fire department in the afternoon.
Last week the first graders took their second spelling test. Many first graders demonstrated their need for more practice with their words, so spelling lists will remain the same for this week. This will also give me a chance to work with students in small groups to review the spelling sorts and read short stories for practice.
The math pages in the homework packet are challenging this week. We will complete a "cheat sheet" with more examples of the make a ten strategy to help. The first graders have been using this strategy for a few days, along with others, so we will take the chapter 3 test by the end of the week.
Recently, I was given the chance to adopt a hamster. I would like to bring the hamster to school for the first graders to enjoy, but want to make sure that there are no allergies in the class. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, I will wait for any allergy reports before bringing Paddington to school after the long weekend. School will dismiss early on Tuesday, November 24. There will be no school from Wednesday, November 25-November 29.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving week!
