Happy Red Ribbon week! We will be talking about and celebrating making healthy choices at school. Every day will have a different activity your child can do to participate in Red Ribbon week. Tuesday students can wear a hat to school to "put a cap on drugs". Wednesday we will "sock it to drugs" with crazy sock day. Your child is welcome to wear boots to "boot out drugs" on Thursday. Friday has two choices. First graders can dress as a super hero or wear crazy hair to wrap up the week. A red flyer was sent home today with the same information.
Today was also the kick-off for the Jog-a-thon. This is the only fundraiser Upland Terrace will have this year. The money raised helps fund a variety of things at Upland. Our goal is for each student to bring in $25 in pledges. The first graders seemed really excited to help out the school after the assembly we went to this afternoon. There are a ton of fun prizes for individual students and classes to earn during the next 10 days. I truly appreciate all the support we receive from the Upland community. Thank you for all the time spent in support of the school year.
All money will be due October 18. Please send any donations back to school in your child's envelope.
Besides all the excitement from Red Ribbon week and the Jog-a-thon, we will be reading about friends in reading this week. Today we read a non-fiction text about what friends do together around the world. Last week we learned how to stop sentences with a period. This week we will practice writing exclamatory and asking sentences.
Now that the class is comfortable working independently, I am looking for volunteers to help with reading in the mornings. I know I had a few offers to help in the mornings earlier this year. I am looking for help between 9:45 and 11:15 Monday through Thursday. Volunteers will be reading with students and practicing sight words.
Have a wonderful week!
