The Jog-a-thon was a ton of fun last week! There are a handful of pictures on Class Dojo of some cute first graders- check those out if you haven't had a chance to! Thank you very much for all your support of our fundraiser! The grand total has not yet been announced, but I am confident that we got close to our goal.
This week we are wrapping up the unit on community jobs. Thank you to the parents that have or will share a little bit about their profession! The first graders are thrilled to learn more about all different jobs. This week we will hear about being a lawyer from Vivian's mom and Hugh's dad will come tell us about being a police officer. If we are lucky, we will even have the fire department come to visit. Last week we learned that sometimes jobs can be unpredictable, especially a job like a fire fighter. The department contacted the teachers to let us know that a call came in right before our scheduled time. The first graders were very patient and even sang some songs while we waited for the end of the day on Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed they will get to visit us next week!
We are also getting close to wrapping up another chapter in math. Today we practiced reading subtraction story problems and writing a related subtraction sentence. The math concepts we cover at the beginning of the year can be a lot to take on, so I'm very proud of all the hard work I see going on this term.
As a reminder, the last day of the term is this Thursday. School will dismiss early that day, and there will be no school on Friday. Next week we will celebrate Halloween as a school. The parade will start at 9:15. The first graders are welcome to bring a change of clothes for the rest of the day. I am excited to see everyone all dressed up!
Have a wonderful week!
